Kids Vitamins – Give Your Kids a Healthy Start with Kids Vitamins
Moms tend to think that they should be giving their kids vitamins and for the most part with the way most people
tend to eat these days they are probably right to do so. Years ago most families sat down to good nutritious meals
everyday and the foods they ate were packed full of vitamins, today many families rely on processed foods that
contain nowhere near the necessary levels of vitamins needed to ensure that their kids continue to grow and thrive
as the mature.
Recent studies have shown that the new estimates of how much vitamin D children need is far more than we used to
think it was. Vitamin D is essential for the growth of healthy strong bones and is only available from a few food
sources such as vitamin D fortified milk, however when the body is exposed to plenty of sunlight it is capable of
manufacturing its own vitamin D. For many years a small amount of vitamin D has been included in some kids
vitamins, but not all of them.
If the body does not get enough vitamin D it can suffer from more problems than just
bone issues. It has been associated with auto immune diseases, lowered brain function; it can lead to cancer and
multiple sclerosis amongst many other medical problems. Through the addition of proper vitamin supplements children
can up their daily intake of vitamin D to the new recommended daily allowance of 200 mg, reducing their risks of
these medical problems.
Vitamin D is not the only important vitamin that kids just do not seem to get enough of, when it comes to
vitamin C children need plenty of it. Vitamin C plays an important role in helping teeth, gums, and bones to stay
healthy. It also helps to keep arteries healthy and improve the body's resistance to viruses like colds and the
flu.
There are many different fruits and vegetables that are a good source of vitamin
C, as sailors in the days of sailing ships found the lack of these fruits and vegetables in their diets led to
scurvy. Foods like sweet potatoes and citrus fruits like oranges are very high in vitamin C and others. It can be
hard to get your children to eat their fruits and vegetables; one possible way to convince them to try these foods
is to point out the benefits.
Most kids love facts and figures so if you are going shopping take your kids with you and amaze them with a
plethora of information about how healthy these items are. Perhaps you can convince them to eat healthy instead of
having to take vitamin and mineral supplements to make up for all the good natural sources of vitamins they have
been missing out on.
The best way to make sure your kids are getting the nutrition they need is to make sure they are eating a well
balanced diet, based on baby solid foods, and for those times when this is not possible consider adding daily
kids vitamins into their diet. Between a good diet and the vitamins you give your kids a fighting chance to get
a healthy start in life.
